Emotiv stuff..

The workshop will be divided in two modules of 6 hours each:

1 – VVVV for audiovisual programming and performance

The workshop aims at all users of VVVV wishing to deepen VVVV in the context of performance and audio-visual programming. Topics covered will be for all tastes and many fields of interest, ranging from the management of audio materials in VVVV to the “visualization” of sound’s features, from the implementation of MIDI controllers, to various kind of analysis and transformations of audio signal offered by VVVV. We will see how to load FreeFrame effects straight into our patches and finally we will see one of the most useful companions of VVVV, the Timeliner, which allows to script and control patches over time. The workshop is aimed primarily at participants who are familiar with the basic elements of VVVV programming (formats, IO boxes, Spreads, etc.)

2 – EmotiVVVV! A workshop about EEG and art

EEG or electroencephalography is the recording of electrical activity in the brain that can be used to control software on a computer in several ways.

This is a hands-on workshop about neuro-technology and art, with a focus on the Emotiv software and hardware. The workshop will start with an introduction on EEG signal and how it can be manipulated to perform different kinds of data visualizations and sonifications by using the multipurpose toolkit VVVV. During the workshop different techniques and protocols will be introduced to design real-time EEG-based interfaces for Art or neuro-feedback applications. During the workshop, Emotiv hardware and SDK will be explained, demonstrating how to interface it with VVVV environment. During the second part of the workshop, participants will design their own audiovisual tools to interface with the Emotiv technology. The workshop was produced in collaboration with iMAL, as a part of the “Tangible Feelings” symposium. http://www.imal.org/en/activity/tangible-feelings thanks to Emotiv® ( http://www.emotiv.com/ )

hey guys, cool second part - I am doing some stuff with emotive but have problems to write my own csharp plugin based on the sdk and emotive csharp wrapper but v4 always crashes and i am not the coder guy more the patcher one. So I always have to use OSC via emotiveKit or Matlab. Does a plugin exists for v4 and does it work stable? I try to be in Rome in the and of May but now I am working in Beijing and not sure if I am back in Europe in the end of May or I have to be in Berlin. So is it possible to be there spontaniosly also when the workshop is full ;-)

but lets stay in contact (ceeyaa@gmail.com) and I wanted to visit some friends in Rome this autumn. I am focused on DataViz, Modeling and A/V Performances

and THX for the “Tangible Feelings” symposium link - I missed it damn - I wanted to see the ArchiveVideos but China is blocking them or the connection is crap could be both here :) Greets CeeYaa

@ antokhio:

some links here: http://www.mattiacasalegno.net/index.php?/interactions/unstable-empathy-v09/ https://vimeo.com/4240405 http://www.imal.org/en/activity/tangible-feelings http://tangible-feelings.wikispaces.com/ or just search “Sounds of Complexity” or “An Unstable Empathy”

@ Rayment: yes, the workshop will be in English

@ CeeYaa: cool approach, very “data analysing” style ;) I go mainly with Mind Your Osc’s and common OSC receivers in VVVV. You can have good timing this way. Hope you will be in Rome.

that sound of complexity stuff looks really good basically i more interested in the practical aspect of that babe thay have two models EPOC & EEG, also they sell sdk… But if i would get chippest set, would it be enough for 4v?

@ antokhio

The headset-only version of the emotiv is enough for attending the workshop. I’ll focus mainly on the applications of the basic software that comes free with the cheapest licence (i.e. Emotiv control panel and MindYourOsc’s). I suggest you to bring your own headset.
