sun sun sun, here we come!

We hereby launch the first vvvv summer camp and we call it: LINK Check out its website for all info.

It is all great and shiny with only one caveat: unfortunately the number of people we can host is limited to 25. This is why we have to run a simple application process and depending on the number of applicants we will have the difficult task to tell some of you that they cannot come. booohh..we know.

Please don’t hesitate to apply though, we’re hoping to assemble a group of not only the usual suspects but also to get to know some new faces!

Also if you cannot attend for the whole time, join us on the public sunday. More information on the website.

So, in a nutshell:

  • 5 days of patching in the sun on the shore of a quiet lake
  • we camp and cook and clean-up together
  • 130km north-west of berlin
  • 260€ with all food and drinks inclusive

Convinced? Then go and apply here directly. Any questions? post@link-summercamp.de

Greetings from the summer camp team: ann-katrin, david, joreg, julia, laura, sebl

i would be ok with the cost, but having to bring stuff like sleeping bag, tent, matters, lan cable(?) on top of vive and notebook and soundcard,(part of the project i would be interested in working on) and flying and then getting to place for just 4 days is a bit over the top imo, seems not very good for people that cant jump into car and just drive there, would be nice to have a place that is bit convenient for international community

This whole LINK think presents itself so nice and beautiful, and is such an easy and compelling concept. Really nice, very well done already. Chapeau!

helo together. I just wanted to say a few words on the location.

the great thing about the location is that the owners are not running a business there. From time to time there are festivities for friends like birthdays and weddings. Having new people there like us is something new there as well. During DDR times the space was taken from the family and was used as a youth summer camp. After DDR the space was given back to the family with the benefit of the youth camp hall and some working facilities that are now so good to have. The great thing about the sight is that literally nobody else is there. No neighbors, no nothing. It is our private space with a huuge private lake. But to set a camp up it requires a lot of work in advance. So the costs are basically split in 25€/25€ per person per day. The first half for 3 meals, plus unlimited radler, moskow mules, water, coffee, etc etc.. the other half goes for running the huge space, paying the housekeeper, water and power consumption, have a company emptying the pit twice, setup, cooking, shopping, hosting etc.

And a word on equipment. Of course we can bring stuff with the car from Berlin. We can also help to organize equipment like tents and hardware from Berlin. We know it is much easier for people who can just jump in the car. Therefore we will have a meeting point at berlin train station on Wednesday morning for all the attendees. The travel from there is much more fun together! Maybe we even shuttle you. That’s still open. We’ll check services and prices. Once you are at the location. No more money is needed. (Except for your trip back home) Lets make this one happen, then we know how it turns out. Maybe we want to do it again, and maybe also somewhere else. Always open!

..for those who already know they cannot take part. I just think it would be still good to know what you would have liked to work on. maybe start a forum thread about it.

best david for the team

a suggestion for cost reduction for the next one: we can do this thing in our weekend house as well in the hills next to lake balaton, it can accomodate 8 people in the house and there’s a huge field for tents, civilization is still close enough that you can just have a longer walk to the nearest shop if something is missing, there’s 4G (or at least 3G) we have unlimited mobile internet here on which you can even download Visual Studio or other 10+ Gb packages. It’s totally free to use for a week (it’s property of my family) so the cost per person can be reduced a lot. Hungary is also dirt cheap with its third world grade economy so food and tourism is usually half if not third of the costs as in Germany (though the closest town is undergoing rapid gentrification so wouldn’t bet on that too much). vegetables are also grown at the place disadvantages though: there’s no direct lake access; technically speaking there are neighbours but they also have their own big field so they are not really close; no housekeeping service, so we have to clean up after ourselves and take care of the place; no industrial grade kitchen, we only have a small one but we have a big grill and fireplace. It’s just a suggestion though which might be easily opposed with stuff I didn’t think of.

Hello,

Today is the deadline but I still don’t dare to apply, why? I am neither a “developer” nor a “vvvv engineer/scientist” yet I use vvvv for almost all my artistic and academic approaches.

Let’s ask: If a described person is fit?

@baxtanuser

So I guess you’re more than welcome to apply :)

Like @sebescudieuser pointed out, we would like to underline that people from all different backgrounds are very welcome to be part of LINK and we would especially like to encourage those, who don’t see themselves as developers but as users or thinkers to join us for discussions and develop concepts and ideas around vvvv/vl. The outcome of your proposal doesn’t have to be a piece of software.

If you don’t have a tent or sleeping bag or you are struggling with something else, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
